Endodontists Use Cutting Edge Technologies
Endodontists have materials and equipment designed to make your treatment more comfortable and successful. They use a small sheet of latex or Nitrile called a dental dam to isolate the tooth during treatment, protecting the rest of your mouth, as well as providing the proper isolation from saliva contamination of the tooth being treated. Digital radiographs and 3-D imaging allow Endodontists to take detailed pictures of tiny tooth anatomy to better see the root canals and any related infections. The space inside root canals is smaller than FDR’s ear on the dime! Endodontists use dental operating microscopes to better see inside the root canals to thoroughly treat them.
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (3-D Imaging)
Cone beam computed tomography is an innovative medical imaging technique that provides endodontists with three-dimensional views of the patient. In certain cases, CBCT greatly enhances the endodontist’s ability to diagnose, evaluate, treat and care for patients. 3-D imaging helps Dr. Sturgill to accurately locate anatomical structures so that treatment can be performed safely and accurately.
During a CBCT scan, the machine rotates around the patient, capturing images using a cone-shaped X-ray beam. These images are then used to construct a 3-D representation of the patient’s teeth, oral and maxillofacial region (mouth, jaw, and neck), and ears, nose, and throat.
